The Sustainable Business COP (SB COP) is a global initiative led by the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry (CNI), launched at COP30 and designed to extend to future COPs, with the aim of structuring and strengthening private sector participation in global climate negotiations.

Recognized by the Brazilian Government and aligned with the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action, SB COP seeks to establish a permanent channel for business contributions, influence the global climate agenda, enhance private sector presence in multilateral processes, and drive concrete actions towards decarbonization, low carbon economy, and climate finance.

Mission

To serve as a formal and continuous platform for the business community to build consensus and set priorities on policies to address global climate challenges.

Goal

Mobilize companies and investors for concrete climate action and establish a permanent business engagement mechanism that tracks and influences the evolution of global commitments, especially within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

SB COP Priorities

In its first year, 2025, SB COP structured its work around eight working groups dedicated to developing concrete recommendations, initiatives and commitments for COP30. These groups brought together leaders and experts across different sectors to contribute to the challenges of climate change — from diverse economic sectors — strategizing and formulating recommendations for a more equitable, sustainable, and prosperous world.

In 2026, looking ahead to COP31, and with a focus on the long-term continuity and impact of the initiative, SB COP adopted a new three-chapter structure: Global, Local, and National.

The Global chapter coordinates and supports the overall SB COP initiative,  designed to sustain momentum and provide robust support in the initiative's early years. It operates through four working groups focused on strategic themes to develop a unified private sector vision on global priorities (preliminary names):

  • Transitioning Away From Fossil Fuels
  • Baku to Belém Roadmap to $1.3T
  • Carbon Markets
  • Jobs and Productive Inclusion

The Local chapter is a collaborative structure led in cooperation by consecutive COP host countries, with the aim of ensuring continuity of initiatives and knowledge transfer. Its working groups are aligned with the six Action Agenda pillars:

  • Transitioning Energy, Industry and Transport
  • Stewarding Forests, Oceans and Biodiversity
  • Transforming Agriculture and Food Systems
  • Building Resilience for Cities, Infrastructure and Water
  • Fostering Human and Social Development
  • Unleashing Enablers and Accelerators, including Finance, Technology and Capacity Building

The National structure also reflects the four Action Global Agenda pillars, but at national level for each member country's business council.

About SB COP

The initiative is fully aligned with the governance of COP 30 and seeks to strengthen the dialogue between companies and governments to influence public and regulatory policies, based on business proposals for incentives for decarbonization and sustainable innovation, ensure the representativeness of the private sector in the climate agenda, considering the generation of insights and recommendations for Brazil's position at the COP, as well as create a structured public-private collaboration channel, ensuring that the business sector is a strategic partner in the implementation of the country's climate commitments.

The work of SB COP 30 is based on principles that will be applied by all actors involved:

Fostering economic impact

Promoting social impact and just transition

Developing integrated solutions through collaboration

Embedding innovation

Ensuring clarity of funding mechanisms
