The Sustainable Cities Working Group of SB COP brings together private‑sector representatives to craft recommendations personalized to each city’s context and maturity, leveraging their capacity for innovation, investment, and implementation to accelerate the shift to more inclusive, efficient, and resilient urban environments.

For Energy and Sanitation, it advises: ensure universal access to affordable water, sanitation, and electricity services; maximize the efficiency, capacity, and management of utility networks through digital monitoring and smart maintenance; and promote and integrate high‑tech, net‑zero practices into all infrastructure systems.

In Urban Mobility and Logistics, the priorities are to expand affordable, accessible public transit and basic urban logistics alternatives; transition fleets to zero‑emission modes and develop peripheral logistics hubs; and implement integrated multimodal transport platforms alongside low‑emission zones.

Under Urban Planning and Infrastructure, the group recommends focusing first on reducing the housing deficit and extending essential services to underserved areas; adopting strategic mixed‑use zoning and sustainable construction practices; and integrating green infrastructure, technologies and even nature-based solutions to strengthen climate resilience and quality of life.

These actions align fully with COP30 and Global Stocktake commitments, advance the main Sustainable Development Goals, and underscore cities’ role as vital ecosystems — bridging social, environmental, and economic dimensions — to drive the transformation toward truly sustainable urban models.
